The Malaysian government introduces a telecommuting policy for ministries and agencies to reduce fuel consumption.

The Malaysian government will implement, starting April 15, a 'work-from-home policy' for ministries, agencies, public bodies, and state enterprises, announced Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

This measure comes in the context of the energy crisis generated by the war in the Middle East, which has led to rising oil prices and the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran. Anwar Ibrahim stated that the policy aims to reduce fuel consumption and ensure a stable energy supply. Although Malaysia subsidizes fuel, rising prices have prompted the government to reduce the subsidized fuel quota from 300 to 200 liters per month. Additionally, the Minister of Transport announced that Malaysian tankers crossing the Strait of Hormuz will be exempt from a tax imposed by Iran, thus maintaining good diplomatic relations with the Iranian government.
