On Friday, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will co-chair a videoconference in Paris dedicated to non-belligerent countries wishing to contribute to a multilateral and purely defensive mission in the Strait of Hormuz. This initiative, announced by the Elysee Palace, aims to restore freedom of navigation in the area under favorable security conditions.
The details of the mission remain unclear, and participants have not yet been announced. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot mentioned that dozens of countries have participated in preparatory work to define the framework of the mission, coordinating with the coastal states.
Iran has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for U.S. and Israeli actions, threatening vessels associated with them. In this context, Macron rejected Trump's call to involve France in a military coalition, emphasizing that participation would only be possible after the cessation of hostilities.
