The Luxembourg Government launched an investigation after the country's international airport temporarily suspended operations on Friday evening due to unidentified drones observed near the airport's airspace.
Luxembourg authorities stated that the drones were spotted visually and that their presence was unauthorized. The incident led to 19 flights being diverted to other airports. Air traffic resumed overnight from Friday to Saturday, at around 01:20 local time.
Prime Minister Luc Frieden said that this was a new situation for Luxembourg. The incident comes as several European countries have recently reported sightings of drones of unknown origin near airports or military infrastructure.
Authorities continue to analyze the information collected and conduct checks in cooperation with international partners. The Government emphasized that, at this stage, the available data do not allow definitive conclusions to be drawn regarding the origin of the drones or the circumstances of the incident.
