This is the ninth attack on the refinery since the beginning of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, with the facility being one of the most frequently targeted energy infrastructures in the region. Residents of Volgograd reported loud explosions in the city, and videos of the drone impacts and the fire appeared on social media.

The regional governor, Andrey Bocharov, confirmed the attack, stating that air defense units repelled a massive terrorist attack.

Damage to a residential building was also reported, but there were no casualties.
