Lithuania and Latvia, two member countries of the European Union, have announced that they will not allow Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to fly through their airspace to Moscow, where he intends to participate in the May 9 parade. Fico confirmed the ban during a statement, mentioning that he will not give up on traveling and will seek an alternative route.
Last year, he was the only European leader, alongside Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who attended the event organized by Vladimir Putin. Robert Fico is known for his close ties with Russia and for blocking EU initiatives regarding Ukraine, alongside Viktor Orbán from Hungary. The May 9 parade is a significant celebration in Russia, marking the surrender of Nazi Germany in 1945.
