At a meeting held at the Kremlin, President Vladimir Putin told Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico that Russia will do everything possible to meet Slovakia's energy demand. This is one of the few European countries that continues to import oil and gas from Russia, benefiting from the existing infrastructure, such as the Druzhba pipelines for oil and TurkStream for gas.

Fico visited Moscow on the occasion of the celebrations dedicated to the victory of the Soviet Union in World War II, but chose not to participate in the Victory Day parade in Red Square, contrary to previous information from the Russian state media. Slovakia, as a member of the European Union, emphasized the importance of maintaining energy relations with Russia, considering that abandoning supply from this source would be too costly, given the developed infrastructure around it.
