A security officer was killed and a colleague was injured in a knife attack carried out on Thursday in Amman, Jordan. The suspect was detained by law enforcement, and authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

The Public Security Directorate said the investigation’s initial findings indicate that the attacker may have planned a “terrorist attack” targeting the institution’s personnel. The suspect’s identity and motives have not been made public. No further information was provided about the condition of the injured officer.

The incident comes less than two weeks after the armed attack carried out on October 23 during a funeral held at a church in the Karak governorate. At that time, nine people were killed and another 40 were injured.

So far, there is no evidence that the two attacks are connected. After the attack in Karak, King Abdullah II warned that terrorists would not be able to threaten Jordan’s unity and security. The investigation in Amman is ongoing.
