Kirill Dmitriev, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and economic envoy of the Kremlin, has arrived in the United States to hold discussions with officials from the Trump administration, according to CNN. His visit comes after Washington imposed sanctions against major Russian oil companies in an attempt to persuade Moscow to accept a ceasefire in Ukraine, following the failure of planned diplomatic rounds in Budapest. Dmitriev, originally from Kiev, has been involved in the Kremlin's contacts with the Trump administration, having previously participated in high-level meetings. He will discuss US-Russia relations with American officials, including special envoy Steve Witkoff.
The White House's foreign policy has been unstable, with Trump alternating between options for military support for Ukraine and a desire to resume dialogue with Putin, who reacted to the sanctions by calling them 'an unfriendly act,' while maintaining openness for discussions.
