In an interview with the BBC, the leader of the Labour Party, Keir Starmer, stated that the United Kingdom should consider a closer alignment with the European single market, instead of a customs union, which is no longer seen as the optimal solution.

This statement comes amid internal debates within the party, where ministers like Wes Streeting and David Lammy argue that a customs union could bring economic benefits. Starmer warned that the resumption of these internal disputes could lead to chaos, similar to that of previous Conservative governments, favoring parties like Reform.

He also ruled out a return to the free movement of people but supported a mobility program for young people. Politically, Starmer believes that the next general elections will be crucial, balancing British identity and the fundamental values of society.
