The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, stated that there are "serious questions for the police" after images from body cameras were released showing how a stabbed young man was restrained by police officers.
Vickrum Digwa, 23 years old, was sentenced to 21 years in prison for the attack on an 18-year-old student, who later died. The images show how the victim, while being restrained, said "I can't breathe," and Digwa lied to the police about the circumstances of the attack.
Protests took place in Southampton, and police chiefs are re-examining commitments against racism. The National Police Chiefs' Council has promised to consider the concerns expressed by parliamentarians. Starmer described the images as "shocking" and emphasized the need to address the influence of allegations of racism on police decisions. The police oversight body will publish a report in the coming months, and Starmer does not rule out a broader investigation.
