Walt Disney has appointed Josh D’Amaro, the head of the theme parks division, as CEO, putting an end to the uncertainty surrounding Bob Iger's succession. D’Amaro, with nearly three decades of experience in the company, will take over on March 18, 2024. Iger, regarded as a legendary leader, led Disney for 15 years and returned to the role in 2022, after a turbulent period under Bob Chapek. D’Amaro will need to navigate current challenges, including threats posed by artificial intelligence and contract negotiations with industry unions.

The parks division he leads has generated a record profit of nearly $10 billion, but D’Amaro is less known in Hollywood, which could pose a challenge. He will also manage political pressures and intensified competition in the entertainment sector. His annual base salary will be $2.5 million, with long-term incentives of $26.3 million.
