Jean-Luc Mélenchon, a prominent figure of the left-wing party La France Insoumise (LFI), confirmed on Sunday that he will run in the presidential elections of 2027. At the age of 74, Mélenchon has a long career in French politics, having held ministerial positions in previous governments as a member of the Socialist Party. He has also run for presidency in 2012, 2017, and 2022, finishing third in 2022, after Marine Le Pen and Emmanuel Macron.

He stated that his team is ready, having a manifesto and a single candidate. According to the French Constitution, Macron cannot run for a third term. Edouard Philippe, Macron's former prime minister, will represent the center-right in 2027. Additionally, Le Pen, who has participated in the last three elections, is barred from running due to a conviction, and Jordan Bardella may replace her.
