On Sunday, Japan issued a tsunami warning for Iwate Prefecture, following a 6.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred near the east coast of Honshu Island, at a depth of 10 km. The earthquake struck at 17:03 local time (10:03 Romania time), and a tsunami was observed 70 km off the coast at 17:12 (10:12 Romania time), with waves estimated to be about 1 meter high. Within an hour, six aftershocks were recorded, the strongest having a magnitude of 6.4. Authorities urged locals to evacuate from coastal areas. Additionally, no anomalies were reported at the Onagawa nuclear power plant.
