The new framework law regarding artificial intelligence in Italy prohibits the distribution of images or videos generated by AI without the consent of the represented individuals, with penalties of up to five years in prison. This measure, supported by both chambers of parliament, was adopted in response to recent cases of deepfakes, especially those involving female victims, including public figures. Italy thus becomes the first country in the EU with a national legal framework that integrates the European Union's guidelines on the use of artificial intelligence. The law establishes general principles and instructs the government to develop detailed regulations.
