Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of at least 16 people, according to the Lebanese Civil Defense, just hours after a ceasefire with Hezbollah came into effect.
Israeli planes and drones struck locations in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley in response to over 50 projectiles fired by Hezbollah. The Israeli army stated that the group's attacks constitute a violation of the ceasefire agreement but committed to respecting the truce, responding firmly to any attack. Hezbollah claimed it would react to any attempt by Israel to extend the occupation.
Recent attacks highlight the fragility of the ceasefire aimed at ending the violence in Lebanon and a provisional peace agreement between the US and Iran. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that 3,912 people have been killed since the onset of the Israeli attacks, including civilians and medical personnel.
