Israel confirmed on Wednesday the killing of Mohammed Odeh, the new leader of the Ezzedin al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas. The attack took place on Tuesday in the Gaza Strip, in the context of a violation of the ceasefire established in October.
The Israeli Minister of Defense, Israel Katz, stated that Odeh was responsible for planning Hamas's terrorist attacks. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also confirmed the deployment of the military operation that targeted Rimal, a neighborhood in Gaza City, resulting in the death of 9 people and injuring over 20.
Hamas has neither confirmed nor denied Odeh's death, leaving room for speculation regarding the impact of this action on the organization.
