Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the interception of a new flotilla for Gaza, named Global Sumud, which departed from Turkey with 54 vessels.
Netanyahu stated that the operation was a success, mentioning that the flotilla represented a 'malicious' plan to break the blockade imposed by Israel. The Israeli Foreign Ministry warned that it would not allow any violation of the naval blockade on the Gaza Strip.
The flotilla announced that Israeli forces intercepted several ships off the coast of Cyprus, and communications with them were interrupted. Ankara condemned the intervention as a 'new act of piracy,' emphasizing that this is the third attempt to break the Israeli blockade in the past year.
The flotilla was heading towards Gaza, which is facing severe humanitarian shortages due to the recent conflict.
