The interception took place while cities around the world were engulfed in new protests against Israeli actions in Gaza and the arrest of approximately 450 activists who were on board the vessels. Following the interception, the far-right Israeli minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, went to the southern port of Ashdod, where the flotilla activists were detained, accusing them of supporting 'terrorism.'
