Erfan Soltani, a 26-year-old man, was released on bail after being arrested during the anti-government protests in Iran in January. His lawyer, Amir Mousakhani, stated that the release took place on Saturday, and the bail paid was 2 billion tomans (approximately 10,600 euros). Soltani had been accused of "conspiracy against internal security" and faced a prison sentence. Despite fears that he could be executed, Iranian authorities denied information about a scheduled execution.

The crackdown on protesters has been severe, with an official death toll of over 3,117, but unofficial estimates suggest that the number of victims could be ten times higher. The protests, which began on December 28, were initially peaceful but turned into violent riots, and Iranian authorities have accused the United States and Israel of instigating these disturbances.
