Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced the opening of nuclear negotiations with the United States, according to the Fars news agency. This decision comes in the context of rising tensions between Iran and the US, after Donald Trump suggested the possibility of military intervention and sent ships to the Persian Gulf. Iran, which has not had diplomatic relations with the US for 40 years, stated that it does not accept ultimatums and that negotiations will be mediated by countries in the region, such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Tehran also denied receiving an ultimatum from Trump. Meanwhile, the crackdown on internal protests continues, with thousands of arrests and reported deaths. Iran is suspected by the West of wanting to develop nuclear weapons, an accusation it contests.
