In Iran, five death row inmates were executed for the protests in January and for alleged ties to Israel.

Iran executed five people sentenced to death on Saturday and Monday, according to the Mizan news agency, affiliated with the Iranian judicial system. The three men executed on Monday were found guilty of participating in the protests in Mashhad and involvement in a plot with links to Israel.

On Saturday, two other convicts were executed after the Supreme Court confirmed the sentences for espionage in favor of Israel and cooperation with Mossad, being accused of transmitting confidential information.

Since the beginning of the conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran, the Iranian judiciary has intensified the crackdown on regime critics, and executions have significantly increased. Human rights organizations, such as HRANA, denounce the use of the death penalty as a method of intimidation, reporting over 2000 executions in Iran last year, the highest number in recent decades.
