Iran has announced the discovery of over 200 billion cubic meters of natural gas in Fars province.

Iran announced on Sunday the discovery of over 200 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the south of the country, in Fars province, according to the Minister of Petroleum, Mohsen Paknejad.

This discovery comes against the backdrop of the war in the Middle East, which has severely affected Iran's energy infrastructure, particularly due to American-Israeli attacks on gas facilities and oil reservoirs. The new gas reserve, which could allow for the extraction of over 160 billion cubic meters, is characterized as "sweet," having a low content of hydrogen sulfide and other acidic compounds, which would reduce extraction costs.

However, according to Bloomberg, production from this new site will not be possible for several years. The Iranian energy sector continues to face major challenges due to the ongoing conflict.
