Iran declared on Saturday that it will close the Strait of Hormuz in response to the attacks carried out by Israel in Lebanon, which it considers a violation of the ceasefire agreement recently signed with the USA. The Khatam-al Anbiya central command stated that this measure aims to restrict maritime traffic and that, in the event that aggression continues, additional measures will be taken.
According to the agreement, Iran committed to ensuring the safe passage of commercial vessels for 60 days, without fees, between the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea. Stopping the fighting in Lebanon is an essential condition for starting American-Iranian discussions regarding the nuclear program and other issues. However, recent Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon have led to loss of human life, complicating the situation. Iran emphasizes that it will resume the traffic of commercial vessels as soon as the Strait of Hormuz is cleared of mines.
