The Iranian parliament's economic committee has approved a bill to remove four zeros from the national currency amid the continued depreciation of the rial.

The draft law stipulates that a new rial will be worth 10,000 current rials, subdivided into 100 gherani. This initiative, initially abandoned in 2019, comes amid a steady depreciation of the rial, caused by international sanctions and the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal. The draft is to be voted on in parliament and approved by the Council of Guardians. Recently, one dollar was worth 925,000 rials.
