Mariam Cissé, a young influencer from Mali with over 90,000 followers on TikTok, was kidnapped and executed by jihadist fighters in the center of Tonka. They accused her of collaborating with the Malian army, claiming that she had transmitted information about the movements of the jihadists. The incident took place in Independence Square, where the young woman, around 20 years old, was shot in front of locals.

Her family confirmed that she was arrested by jihadists, and a local official described the execution as a 'barbaric' act and an 'ignoble gesture,' highlighting the deteriorating security situation in the region. Cissé's death has sparked a wave of shock in Mali, which has been facing a jihadist insurgency for over a decade, in the context of a military junta in power.
