On Saturday, a United Airlines Boeing 777-200ER, which had taken off from Washington Dulles Airport bound for Tokyo Haneda, was forced to return due to a malfunction in the engine that led to a fire near the runway. Flight United 803 took off at 12:20 PM but quickly returned after a power loss issue occurred in one of the engines. A piece of the engine cover detached and caused a fire on the ground, which was extinguished by firefighters. The aircraft landed safely at 1:30 PM, and the passengers, numbering 275, were transferred to another flight. Aviation authorities will investigate the incident, and the affected runway was temporarily closed without affecting other flight operations.
