A Texas ICE agent shot a Venezuelan delivery driver

A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot and seriously wounded a Venezuelan man on Sunday afternoon in north Austin, Texas. The man, identified by his attorney as 28-year-old Wilber Rafael Garcés Perez, was delivering food when the shooting occurred.

The victim was taken to hospital and is in serious but stable condition after being shot in the torso. According to a law enforcement source, the man was in the United States illegally and had a final order of removal.

The Texas Department of Public Safety announced that ICE had requested assistance in connection with a vehicle pursuit involving a blue Toyota Corolla. The shooting occurred before DPS agents arrived at the scene. A recording verified by NBC News shows a dark-colored SUV, the blue sedan and at least three gunshots.

Protesters gathered at the scene, chanting slogans against ICE. The incident comes two months after an ICE agent fatally shot a Mexican citizen in Houston during a traffic stop operation.
