In 2025, Hungary had a record year in tourism, with nearly 20 million visitors and 47 million overnight stays, due to the growth of both domestic tourism and international markets. Romania stood out as one of the most dynamic markets, with 713,200 Romanian tourists, an increase of 11.9% compared to the previous year. The most popular destinations for Romanians were Budapest, spa resorts, and border regions.

At the national level, Hungary recorded 19.5 million tourists, with a growth of 7.3% compared to 2024, and domestic tourism remained an important pillar. Budapest attracted over 7.6 million tourists, generating 18 million overnight stays, thanks to its cultural and gastronomic offerings. Investments in infrastructure and the development of active tourism contributed to these results. In comparison, Romania had approximately 11.3 million domestic tourists, but far fewer foreign tourists, highlighting the significant difference in favor of Hungary.
