Hungary has announced that it will refer the matter to the Court of Justice of the European Union to contest the ban on imports of Russian gas, adopted by the majority of member states. Prime Minister Viktor Orban claims that the measure is "illegal and contrary to European values" and accuses Brussels of trying to silence his government. Hungary, along with Slovakia, opposed the EU decision, and Orban specified that he is also relying on his relationship with Donald Trump to obtain additional exemptions from American energy sanctions.
