Heavy snowfall that hit Japan in the last two weeks has caused the death of 30 people. The Japanese government has mobilized military personnel to assist residents in this department, where the snow layer reached 4.5 meters in isolated areas.

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi led an emergency meeting, urging ministers to make every effort to protect people's lives. A mass of cold air has generated massive snowfall, and in some areas, snow amounts have been recorded at twice the usual levels. The governor of Aomori has requested the military to help clear snow from in front of elderly residents' homes, warning of the risks of fatal accidents caused by snow falling from roofs.
