On Tuesday, AFP and experts criticized Grok, the artificial intelligence program created by Elon Musk, for spreading false information about the terrorist attack in Sydney, which took place on Bondi Beach during the Hanukkah celebrations. The attack, carried out by a father and son, resulted in the deaths of at least 15 people and injured another 42, being described by Australian authorities as an antisemitic act.
Grok made significant errors, confusing a local hero, Ahmed al-Ahmed, with an Israeli hostage and claiming that the images of the attack were actually from a storm. It also promoted the idea that the attack was a staged event. Additionally, Grok automatically responded to claims that a survivor was an actor, asserting that traditional media lies, thus perpetuating conspiracy theories. These errors highlight the risks of misinformation generated by artificial intelligence in critical situations.
