Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced a series of measures to counteract the cost of living crisis in Greece, highlighting the dual approach of the authorities in Athens. The government will subsidize diesel by 0.16 euros per liter, resulting in a net reduction of 0.20 euros per liter, including VAT. Additionally, a digital fuel card will be introduced, estimated to provide an average support of 0.36 euros per liter, generating savings of approximately 50 euros per month in mainland Greece and 60 euros on the islands.

Farmers will benefit from a 15% subsidy for fertilizers, and ferry companies will receive compensation to maintain ticket prices. These initiatives will be funded from public funds and from a tax on the profits of gambling operators, ensuring 100 million euros for the measures. Mitsotakis emphasized the importance of maintaining financial reserves in case of a deterioration of the global economy. Greece is facing a cost of living crisis, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the invasion of Ukraine.
