Germany intends to propose the establishment of a NATO mission to monitor and protect security interests in the Arctic region, in response to Donald Trump's threats to annex Greenland. The mission could be inspired by "Baltic Sentry," which protects infrastructure in the Baltic Sea. German Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil emphasized that Greenland's sovereignty must be respected and that it is a matter that solely concerns Denmark and Greenland. During the visits of German officials to Washington, discussions are taking place on how to collaborate within NATO to address challenges in the Arctic region, including the activities of China and Russia. The Supreme Allied Commander in Europe highlighted the strategic importance of the Arctic in the context of melting ice and increased access to the area. The United Kingdom is also discussing the possible deployment of troops in Greenland as part of the NATO mission.
