Preliminary data show that France's economy grew by 0.3% in the second quarter of 2025, driven by household spending, beating analysts' expectations. However, the government faces a budget deficit of 5.4% of GDP, which it aims to reduce to 4.6% in 2026. The IMF has called for additional measures to control the deficit, warning that without action it could remain at 6% in the medium term. Estimated growth for 2025 is 0.6%, according to the IMF.
