The chikungunya outbreak in Foshan, China, has led to an estimated 7,000 infections and authorities have implemented strict measures, including hospitalization of patients and disinfection campaigns. Drones are being used to disperse insecticide in affected areas, and 5,000 fish that consume mosquito eggs have been brought in to control the population. A species of predatory mosquitoes has also been released to hunt mosquitoes that transmit the virus. This outbreak is considered a unique event as the virus has never before been present in mainland China.
