According to an ECDC report, Europe is experiencing extended and intense transmission seasons of mosquito-borne diseases such as West Nile virus infection and chikungunya. Factors such as rising temperatures and changes in rainfall favor mosquito breeding. In 2025, Europe saw a record number of chikungunya outbreaks, including a local case in Alsace. WNV infections have increased, with new cases reported in Italy and Romania. ECDC recommends protective measures against mosquito bites and emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis among healthcare workers.
