Ford has signed an agreement to protect jobs at its Cologne plant, but will lay off 2,900 employees through voluntary departures in response to low demand for electric vehicles. The IG Metall union welcomed the compensatory measures, although the future of production remains uncertain. Ford has invested 2 billion dollars in the Cologne plant to turn it into an EV production hub and is seeking government incentives to support the transition to electric vehicles.
