The 45-year-old firefighter was seriously injured while fighting forest fires in the Sabugal municipality. The Portuguese Presidency sent its condolences to his family. The fires have so far caused four deaths in Portugal and burned almost 278,000 hectares of land this year. Climate change is contributing to the intensification of these fires, seriously affecting the Iberian Peninsula.
