The incident took place on Sunday morning during the annual Rath Yatra festival when thousands of worshippers gathered around the Gundicha Temple. The Odisha police chief confirmed the death of three people and injuries to six others, but the victims are not in serious condition. Extreme crowding around the ceremonial chariot was the cause of the stampede. Such incidents are common in India, especially during religious holidays, where safety measures are often inadequate.
