On Thursday night, a driver caused a serious accident near the train station in Caen, France, deliberately hitting several people who were waiting at a tram stop. The incident, which occurred around 10:00 PM, resulted in the death of two people and the injury of another ten, some of whom are in serious condition.
According to the prefect of the Calvados department, David Clavière, most of the victims are of foreign nationality, including Afghans, Egyptians, and people from Bangladesh. The driver, Ibrahim I., 26 years old, fled the scene but was later apprehended in Ouistreham. He was known to the police for traffic offenses. An investigation for manslaughter and serious bodily harm has been opened; however, so far, there are no indications that the incident has terrorist motivations.
