According to a new Eurobarometer survey, 68% of Europeans perceive a threat to their country's security, and 52% trust that the European Union will strengthen security and defense. The highest percentages of perceived threats are found in France (80%), the Netherlands, and Denmark (77%), while Romania is at the European average. Additionally, 42% of citizens believe that personal safety is in danger. The majority of Europeans (53%) consider security a key priority for EU policy, followed by environment and climate.
Support for defense investments is high, with 74% of respondents supporting the current level or calling for an increase, especially in countries like Lithuania and Portugal. The survey included 27,292 interviews and will guide future policies of the European Commission.
