On August 8, the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA), which guarantees information as a public good and protects press freedom, entered into force. This regulation comes in response to the challenges posed by digitization and globalization, which have increased the influence of digital platforms on the media. EMFA sets rules for transparency of media ownership, protection of editorial independence and regulation of state advertising. It also establishes a European Media Services Committee responsible for implementing the regulation in the Member States, with the aim of strengthening pluralism and freedom of expression.
