Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced that he does not intend to run for president again, stressing the need for a new constitution for Turkey that reflects current realities. He criticized the existing constitution as a product of a coup d'état and urged the opposition to work together to create a civilian constitution. On calls for early elections, Erdogan said there were no grounds for them, given that parliament was elected for a five-year term. The next presidential elections are scheduled for 2028.
