The artist Dua Lipa has filed a lawsuit worth 15 million dollars against Samsung, claiming that the company used her image on the packaging of televisions without obtaining her permission and without offering her compensation.

According to the complaint filed on Friday, Samsung used Dua Lipa's image in marketing campaigns starting last year, and when the artist requested the cessation of the use of her image, the company refused. The lawsuit claims that Samsung has made considerable profits from the impression that the artist would promote the products, which is not true. Dua Lipa holds the copyright to the photograph used, taken behind the scenes at the Austin City Limits festival in 2024.

The complaint invokes violations of copyright and California's right of publicity law.

The lawsuit was filed in the Central District of California, and Samsung has not yet provided an official response.

Following the publication of the article, Samsung issued a right of reply denying the allegations of abusive use of the artist's image.

We present below Samsung Electronics' right of reply:

"The image of artist Dua Lipa was used in 2025 for displaying content from our third-party partners, available on Samsung televisions, and was initially provided by a content partner for our free streaming service Samsung TV Plus. The image was used only after we received explicit assurance from the content partner that permission had been obtained, including for the product sales packaging. Given this assurance, we deny any allegations of intentional abusive use."

Samsung has great respect for artist Dua Lipa and for the intellectual property of all artists. We remain open to finding a constructive solution to resolve this situation together with the artist's team."
