Trump calls daylight saving time "impractical and very costly" for the US. His proposal contradicts the majority position of the Republican Party, which has backed a bill to make daylight saving time permanent. Elon Musk, Trump's recent appointee to a commission to cut government spending, has commented that more than 80% of voters want to eliminate daylight saving time.
