Donald Trump shared a video on the social media platform Truth Social that was deemed racist, in which Barack and Michelle Obama were depicted as monkeys, accompanied by the song 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight'. The post generated a wave of criticism, including from Republican Senator Tim Scott, who described it as 'the most racist thing' from the current administration. The White House attempted to defend the post, claiming it was a joke inspired by 'The Lion King', but public pressure led to the video being deleted after 12 hours.

Critics from American politicians, including from the NAACP, condemned the video as 'disgusting'. Trump has previously been accused of racism in connection with his attacks on Obama, including false claims about his origins. The video is part of a broader narrative about alleged electoral fraud in 2020, but the accusations have been dismissed in court.
