President Donald Trump reacted to the protests in France in a message posted on the Truth Social platform, claiming that the demonstrations are caused not only by problems in education but by “uncontrolled mass migration.” The White House leader said, without presenting evidence, that Islam wants to take control of France.
The reaction comes amid student protests held in several French cities, including Paris, Marseille, Strasbourg and Lyon. The demonstrations were triggered by grievances over the school curriculum, considered too demanding, conditions in high schools and the level of funding for the education system. Education unions and parents’ organizations joined the protesters.
In recent days, some demonstrations have escalated into clashes with law enforcement. Schools, shops and other buildings were vandalized. More than 5,000 people, most of them minors, were detained, and nearly 90% of them are under 18. Fourteen people, including four teenagers, are in pretrial detention. Nearly 200 young people and 65 police officers and gendarmes were injured, while more than 400 high schools were damaged.
