The national airline of Bangladesh has announced the resumption of direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi, after a break of over ten years. The first flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines was operated on Thursday evening, carrying 150 passengers. This resumption of flights is a sign of the diplomatic thaw between Bangladesh and Pakistan, which were united until 1971, when they separated following a civil war. From now on, the two cities will benefit from two weekly flights, eliminating the need for stopovers in Dubai or Doha. Relations between the two countries have recently improved, especially after the withdrawal of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, in the summer of 2024. Additionally, direct maritime links between the ports of Karachi and Chittagong were resumed in November 2024.
