Bangladesh clothing manufacturers, the second largest global exporter, are preparing to implement digital passports for items destined for the European market, starting in 2027. These passports will allow consumers to verify the ecological information of brands by scanning QR codes. Asif Ibrahim, vice president of the Newage Group of Industries, emphasizes the importance of this tool for transparency but mentions that small producers are not ready for the strict requirements of the European Union. Although suppliers already provide information about labor and environmental standards, a Greenpeace report highlighted issues of greenwashing. Collaborating with technology firms, such as Aware, which use blockchain to track data, is essential. Ibrahim states that small suppliers will need support to modernize their technological and data management capabilities.
