The interim presidency of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, has initiated a significant reshuffle of the high military command, replacing all members a day after the dismissal of the defense minister. The new minister, General Gustavo Gonzalez Lopez, was previously the head of the presidential guard and the General Directorate of Counterintelligence. This change replaces General Vladimir Padrino, who has held the position since 2014. Additionally, General Domingo Hernandez Lares, the number two of the armed forces, will be replaced by General Rafael Prieto Martinez. Rodriguez, in power since Maduro's fall, has recently adopted economic reforms and restored diplomatic relations with the United States, while the Venezuelan army has expressed its support for her measures, which contradict the chavista policies implemented over the last two decades.
